The Potato Head Project is a non-profit organization near and dear to my heart. On January 11th, 2013, one of my best friends went into preterm labor (at 23 weeks), delivering two of the tiniest humans I'd ever seen. Dylan and Hayden weighed 1 pound, 3 ounces, and 1 pound, 7 ounces.

Nothing can prepare a family for the ups and downs experienced when a baby is born so early and needs prolonged care in a NICU. The girls fought through many health issues and challenges but persevered with the skill of their healthcare team and their parent's love and advocacy.
Kristin started The Potato Head Project to support and give hope to other parents and micro-preemies. Through the Potato Head Project (PHP), individuals can request a PHP package filled with Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head, a knit hat, tiny leg warmers, and other goodies.

Why a Potato Head?
Most people don't know how tiny a one-pound baby is. But everyone knows the size of a Mr. Potato Head. So Kristin and her husband, Eric, placed Mrs. Potato Head next to their teeny tiny girls to show how small they were and track their growth. Eric selected the Potato Head because it was easy to clean, reducing the risk of exposing his girls to germs.
